THE people of Haringey have just been awarded a very dubious 'first' The District Health Authoritv has herome the first in the country to make all the cuts required by Thatcher and Fowler to pay for this pay offer of by Peter Firmin that SO supporters then proposed a second vote to endorse Livingstone as the candidate of the left. It was unanimous.

Screams

We have seen how the media and the right wing have screamed when other MPs have been replaced. This may well be nothing in comparison with what will happen in Brent East (I would not be writing this yet if some "mole' had not already passed on accurate details of Sunday's meeting to the press).

We need a strong campaign to convince Labour activists to stand firm against this pressure, and particularly against the register. 6% for ancillaries 7½% for nurses.

Haringey Health Distri is chaired by Lawren Bains who is paid £7,0 per year for two days wo per week. He once livi in part of the Borou but for many years h lived in a large farm hou in Arkley, from where I goes fox-hunting; qualification for decidin on the level of health ca needed by the people Haringey is that he workr as a Lloyds Underwrit and was one of Hora Cutler's cronies when the GLC.

The District Hea Authority announced cuts (£147,000 for ov spending on drugs a £135,000 to finance the p offer) in a report to t August meeting. report freely admitted tr there had been no cons tation with staff, but t the recomendations h been approved by a D trict Management Ter meeting, who were going have detailed discussio with staff on their imp mentation.

Among the cuts that 1 DHA is attempting to i pose are the closure the Wood Green and Sout gate Hospital and the lo of 85 full time jobs. comes on top of previo cuts, with wards bei kept closed and vacanci deliberately maintained.

The Health Unions the District have voted oppose these measure and to fight back by occ pying the hospital calling for support fro local Trade Unionists.

Support has been read given, and the Hospit Workers Strike Suppr Committee has produc thousands of leaflets al organised three pub meetings to mobilise th support.

What is happening Haringey is a measure what is in store for eve part of the country. A if the Tories get away wi this carnage on the Natio al Health Service, thi every other service is risk.
